The return of the cinema! Posted On 29 June 2020

Due to the Coronavirus lockdown, many highly anticipated films have been pushed back, but with cinemas due to reopen this week, we thought we’d look at the latest release dates for some of the biggest blockbusters this year…

Mulan – 12th August

Disney continues to rollout live-action remakes of their classics. This time around is Mulan, the story of a young Chinese maiden who disguises herself as a male warrior to save her father. Acclaimed filmmaker Niki Caro, director of McFarland, USA and The Zookeeper’s Wife, is the second female director hired by Disney to direct a film with over a $100 million budget.

Wonder Woman 1984 – 2nd October

Gal Gadot is back bringing girl power to the big screen in this sequel to one of DC’s biggest movies. Chris Pine returns and Pedro Pascal from Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian and Kristen Wiig joins the cast as Max Lord and Cheetah. The film’s 80s setting gives director Patty Jenkins the scope to introduce an incredible throwback soundtrack and a funky colour-scheme throughout the film.

Bill & Ted Face the Music – 28th August

The long-awaited return of Bill and Ted from the cult classic movies Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey are back after nearly 30 years with Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter resuming their roles. There is little detail about the exact plot, except we now know our heroes are middle-aged dads still trying to write the ultimate rock song. All that leaves us to say is, ‘Woah…’ (If you know you know!)

A Quiet Place 2 – 4th September

Husband and wife team John Krasinski and Emily Blunt return with the follow up to 2018’s hugely successful A Quiet Place. After the events of the first film, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world and realise that the creatures that hunt by sound aren’t the only threats in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Joined by the always-great Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou, A Quiet Place 2 promises to be a bigger hit than the first film.

When the cinemas do reopen on the 4th of July, there will be a bespoke choice of classic films available with cinemas being given an archive of up to 450 films to choose from. To check if your local cinema is reopeining and what is showing go to their website.
